What changed recently across Lag. Short notes, clear outcomes, and no technical fluff.
Lag is now faster at connecting as well as voice connectivity. We have made it so latency is reduced. We moved all of our voice interactions on the desktop app to native Rust and this allows for configurable and performant voice interactions. We have also made it so the app is much more responsive and faster to load.
Chat messages in rooms and DMs are now automatically deleted after 24 hours for privacy.
Desktop app now matches web for server customization: owners and admins can edit server name, upload a custom icon, or remove it. Account settings add display name editing and profile photo upload so your identity stays consistent across devices.
Friend and server member statuses now update in real time when users come online or go offline. Inactive users (logged in but no activity for 5 minutes) show an orange indicator. Status syncs correctly when you join a room so you always see who is online.
Voice rooms now take over the full screen when you join, with a focused participant grid, per-stream native browser fullscreen for screen shares, and a clean bottom dock for mic, deafen, and share controls. Chat has been removed from the in-room view to keep the experience voice-first.
Fixed production API CORS/preflight handling for creating servers and rooms, and removed a production-only server creation cap caused by policy drift.
Voice rooms now show a live wall of all active screen shares with per-stream focus and fullscreen controls for everyone in the room.
Reworked the first-time account setup panel with clearer form hierarchy, stronger status states, and faster visual readability.
Made branding and in-app notifications follow Lag dark mode by default instead of the operating system theme.
