Web App
The Lag web app runs at trylag.com and provides full access to voice rooms, messaging, server management, and all platform features directly in your browser.
Browser Requirements
Lag works best on modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc) and Firefox. Safari is supported but may have limitations with WebRTC voice features. A minimum browser version from 2023 or later is recommended.
Your browser must support:
- WebRTC for voice communication
- WebSockets for real-time messaging and presence
- Web Audio API for audio processing and device selection
Features
The web app includes the full Lag feature set:
- Voice rooms - Join and participate in voice conversations with low-latency audio
- Text messaging - Send messages in room chat and direct messages
- Server management - Create servers, manage rooms, invite members, configure robots
- Friend system - Send and accept friend requests, view online status
- Settings - Configure audio devices, notification preferences, and account details
- Robot management - Create and manage bot integrations from the /robots portal
Audio in the Browser
When you join a voice room for the first time, your browser will prompt for microphone access. Grant this permission to participate in voice chat. You can select your preferred input and output devices in the voice settings panel.
The web app supports both push-to-talk and voice activity detection modes. Push-to-talk requires you to hold a key while speaking. Voice activity detection automatically transmits when it detects your voice above a configurable threshold.
Notifications
Browser notifications require you to grant notification permission when prompted. Once enabled, you will receive notifications for:
- Direct messages when the tab is not focused
- Friend requests
- Server invites
Notification behavior depends on your browser and operating system settings.
Known Limitations
Compared to the desktop app, the web app has a few limitations:
- No system-level push-to-talk - Push-to-talk only works when the browser tab is focused
- No system tray - The app closes when you close the tab
- No deep links - The
lag://protocol is only available on desktop - Audio device switching - Some browsers restrict audio output device selection
- Background behavior - Voice connections may be throttled if the tab is in the background for extended periods on some browsers
